Living is a Privilege

The other day, I went to the prison and spoke to the inmates. Afterwards, an inmate came to me and said, “Bro. Cook, they’re not trying to let me go out on work release, because they did an assessment on me that said I’M NOT READY! Man, they are wrong. I told them that if they don’t let me out, then they might as well send me back to Hagerstown. They don’t know what they are talking about, Brother Cook!” So, I let him talk, but I was studying him and his behavior while talking. After finishing, I asked him did he say it to the counselor with vigor and enthusiasm like he just said to me. He said yes! I told the brother that from his actions, I agree with the assessment that he isn’t ready! See, I mentor several inmates when they come home, and some return because they have that same attitude. As a matter of fact, Thursday, one of them just came BACK home telling me that he wish he would have listened to me. Yes, he was blown but I had to tell the brother An Entitlement Mentality is what got him in trouble. See, because he wanted a yes person to agree with his sense of entitlement and I am wasn’t that person. And a whole lot of us feel as if we are entitled to everything. We feel as if we are the dog’s bow wow, and that may be true according to YOU, but not others. It’s funny, because when we don’t get our way, we feel as if the Other person is in the wrong and not US. Let me help you brother, let me help you sister, WE DON’T OWN ANYTHING. We don’t even own the Air we breathe, and we can eliminate 70% of out stressors if we stop treating people, places and things as if they owe us something. We have to stop treating others as if they are the Enemy and we have to start dealing with the Inner Me! The brother didn’t expect it, nor did he want to hear it, but living is a privilege and dying is an Entitlement because Everyone dies, but not Everyone Lives. We have to Walk in humility and everything will humble themselves to you! You’re the best, so Be Encouraged!
